Essentials of infection & immunity: a Rheuma–ID convergence

Event Description

11 - 13 February 2026
Online
Online

This course is designed to bridge the knowledge gap between infectious diseases and rheumatology. The course brings together experts to explore the diagnostic and therapeutic complexities involving immunosuppression, infection risks, inborn errors of immunity (IEI), and infections that mimic or trigger autoimmune syndromes. Through lectures and case-based discussions, the program equips clinicians to manage immune dysregulation with precision and confidence.

Intended audience:

The course is open for ID and CM professionals, rheumatologists, clinical immunologists, paediatricians, internists and postgraduate residents and fellows in related specialities.

Objectives:

  • Identify infection risks associated with immunosuppressive therapies, including biologics and steroids.
  • Demonstrate screening and preventive strategies for tuberculosis, herpesviruses, and fungal infections in immunocompromised hosts.
  • Analyse the clinical overlap and diagnostic challenges between infectious and autoimmune diseases.
  • Recognise clinical red flags suggestive of inborn errors of immunity (IEI) across age groups.
  • Interpret laboratory data and apply diagnostic algorithms for IEI and post-infectious syndromes.
  • Design individualised vaccination and infection prophylaxis strategies in autoimmune and immunodeficient patients.
  • Differentiate between infectious and inflammatory causes in complex presentations such as fever of unknown origin and macrophage activation syndrome.
