To fulfil its purpose, the Foundation supports activities in the following categories.
Tailored two- to four-day educational programmes at the postgraduate level, which focus on specific clinical or laboratory topics. Courses and workshops can be held online, onsite, or with hybrid formats. Individual persons or academic institutions can help organise and host these courses with the financial support of the Foundation. These activities are open and available to interested physicians, researchers, and other healthcare professionals. Courses provide CME points and are an excellent opportunity for networking and establishing contacts for scientific collaboration.
Longer programmes, ranging from one to two years, focusing on specific topics such as antimicrobial stewardship, infection prevention and control, etc. These programmes can contain different learning modules available online, onsite and blended across Europe and beyond. Certifications provide CME points.
These programmes aim to facilitate knowledge exchange by allowing young trainees to visit institutions outside their country of residence or to be mentored in career development by senior experts. Exchange programmes can last up to one month with mentorships lasting up to two years. Fellowships enable early-career investigators, especially those from low and lower-middle income countries, to travel to renowned centres for multidisciplinary clinical and laboratory training.
These events can range from 2-4 days for specialty meetings & workshops to 5-7 days for programmes such as summer schools. Small conferences usually focus on one specific topic within CM & ID while longer meetings are more inter-disciplinary focusing on postgraduate studies and medical education. The Foundation will help to sponsor these meetings and also provide financial support to attendees. Attendance to conferences may provide CME points.
Grants allow financial support to investigators, including those from resources-limited countries, to help kick-start their careers in CM & ID. Scholarships aim to support and encourage researchers, clinicians, and healthcare professionals to participate to congresses specialised in CM & ID and give them additional opportunities to receive CME points.
The Foundation supports the development and access to virtual learning platforms, which provide a variety of on-demand courses and eLearning materials in CM & ID, without the need to travel to onsite events.
