In today’s fast-paced world where globalisation, climate change and infectious diseases create high complexity and uncertainty, steadfast leadership is more crucial than ever. In this context, future-oriented leaders need to give direction and clarity, build trust and act as a coach for their teams to drive growth and provide stability at the same time. 

From clinician to leader: navigating complexity & driving impact in healthcare (28-29 October) is an immersive leadership development course designed specifically for healthcare and scientific professionals who want to strengthen their ability to lead people, influence systems, and create meaningful impact. Developed and delivered by Trivium - global experts in participatory leadership, team development and experiential learning.

Participants will engage in hands-on sessions, strategic simulations, and co-creation exercises designed to build resilience, decision-making skills, and trust within teams.

Whether you’re leading a lab, a hospital department, a research group, or a public health initiative, this course will help you transform your leadership approach and elevate your impact.

Intended audience:

• Mid-career infectious disease specialists, clinical microbiologists, public health professionals, and research leaders
• Team leads or department heads with at least 5 years of leadership experience, such as PhD student coordination
• Professionals working in cross-cultural, multi-generational, or interdisciplinary teams within healthcare, academia, or public health systems

New - Add on: Leading as a woman in healthcare: half-day intensive (27 October)

Women in healthcare continue to make significant contributions across clinical care, research, education, and public health. Yet many encounter unique leadership challenges, including visibility barriers, unconscious bias, unequal access to opportunities, and complex workplace dynamics.

This add-on half-day intensive, held prior to “From clinician to leader” is designed to complement the core leadership programme by providing a dedicated space to explore the realities of leadership as a woman in healthcare.

This session combines practical tools, facilitated discussion, and real-world case studies to help participants lead authentically and effectively in healthcare environments.

Objectives:

This session explores key leadership challenges and opportunities for women in science and healthcare. Through insights from an experienced ESCMID female leader, participants will gain practical strategies for navigating workplace biases, strengthening their leadership presence, communicating a compelling vision, and negotiating effectively in leadership roles.

Who can attend the half-day intensive?

“Leading as a woman in healthcare” is open to all female participants attending the “From clinician to leader” course.

Five attendance grants supported by the ESCMID Foundation. Open to ESCMID Young Scientist members only. The grant only covers the registration fee. It does not cover travel or accommodation costs.
