Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) with antiretroviral drugs is a highly effective tool in preventing new HIV infections. The implementation of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) has improved substantially since 2016 in Europe and other parts of the world. However, there is still a great deal of variation in implementation across countries and regions. The course will discuss the basic guidelines on the PrEP implementation, but also practical caveats and possible mistakes in delivering the service. The second part of the course will concentrate on sexually transmitted infections (STIs) with an overview of different STIs that are common among PrEP users. It is of the utmost importance that PrEP providers are familiar with this field. We will cover diagnostics, treatment, and prevention of STIs, but also some uncertainties and dilemmas a PrEP provider could face in routine work.
Intended audience:
The course is open for ID and CM professionals, clinicians involved in the treatment and prevention of STIs and HIV, clinical pharmacists and clinical microbiologists with a special interest in the subject of PrEP and STIs.
